At a very young age, Carl was stricken with polio. He spent many years of his youth being treated at the Shriners Hospital in Portland. Carl graduated from Glendale High School in 1948. During the school year, he was manager of the football team. He became a lifelong fan, supporting Glendale School athletes and sports programs.
Carl owned and operated a log truck, worked in the woods, ran lathe in a veneer plant, operated the gas station at Glendale Junction on 'New 99', and then became weigh master for Douglas County Scales. He retired as weigh master in 1991.
Soon after moving to Glendale, Carl met his future wife, Zorayda Fay Martin. They were married for almost 52 years before her death in 2002.
Survivors include his younger sister, Lorraine Poleski of Princeville, HI, daughter Margaret Pope, son Thomas Ford of Glendale and daughter Zorayda Donovan of Creswell, five grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many close friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at Glendale Elementary School gymnasium on Saturday, May 30th at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to The Shriners Hospital in Portland, OR (3101 SW Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97239) or Glendale High School Athletics (P.
