Orville Floyd Meade was born to Floyd and June on May 21, 1945. His sister, Louise, called him “Bub,” and the nickname Bud stuck. He graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1963 and shortly after was recruited to Goodwill for military service.
Bud met his sweetheart, Lydia Martinson, when she was the cute neighbor girl across the street from the house he rented with some buddies in Portland. The time he spent working for Goodwill was the only time in his life he didn’t call Southern Oregon his home. When he finally got the nerve to ask permission to take Lydia out, they would go on drives around the country side. During those outings he must have sparked her interest in his life, family, and faith because she moved to Grants Pass as a teenager and married the love of her life. During 53 years of marriage, they raised 3 children, ran multiple businesses, built homes, enjoyed vacations across the U.S., and were able to help countless families in their church.
Bud always liked to work with his hands, as a small boy when he made his first scooter, through his adulthood when he was in construction, restored automobiles and RVs, and his recent project, a Candyapple Red 1971 Corvette Stingray. Even though he was an early riser and never one to be idle, he made time to read his Bible while enjoying his morning coffee, and nap in his recliner until bedtime.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and June, step-dad Red Emery, and his sisters, Eleanor Milburn and Betty Wallace. He is survived by his wife Lydia, his daughters Charmaine (Troy Milburn) and Crystal (Ryan Milburn), his son Jered (Heidi Meade), and daughter-in-law Shasta (Mike Simons), all of Grants Pass, Oregon. He enjoyed watching his 10 grandchildren grow up and he adored his 8 great-grandchildren.
Bud was ordained to be an elder in the Followers of Christ Church in June of 1981 and took great joy in encouraging others to always follow after God’s promises, just as he did until the end.
