Buck Allen Culpepper, age 61, of Wilderville, died Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at his son’s home.
A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Granite Hill Cemetery with Pastor Rick Gilmore officiating. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
Buck was born February 4, 1951 in Berkeley, California to Charles & Corrine Cox. In the late 60s, he moved to the Rogue Valley. He first lived in Wimer and was a 1971 graduate of Rogue River High School. On September 20, 1975 he married Debbie Renau, who died on May 22, 2000. For a few years, buck worked as a firefighter for the Wimer fire department where he would sleep in the fire truck cab, so he wouldn’t miss a fire. He later worked for Grants Pass Rural Fire Department for many years and then Grants Pass City Fire Department for eight years until his retirement in 1988. He also drove a log truck for R.B. Slagle. From 1990 to 1998 he drove truck for Tom Marthaller, retiring in 1998. During the summers, he worked for Oregon Department of Forestry during the 70s and 80s.
Buck enjoyed mechanic work, playing hardball, and playing city league basketball.
Survivors include three sons, John Bowley of Grants Pass, Oregon, Mike Bowley of Jacksonville, Oregon , and Scott Culpepper of Wilderville, Oregon; a sister, Cheryl Cox of Portland, Oregon; four grandchildren; a niece; and two nephews.
