Brett Stephen Stapleton

Brett, a beloved son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, passed away in his sleep on March 27, 2016 and returned to his Heavenly Father.

Born June 13, 1986, Brett was a wildland firefighter with the National Park Service and loved his work. He was recently stationed in Yosemite National Park in California. He loved the outdoors and loved figuring out how people think. He studied psychology at Oregon State University after graduating from Grants Pass High School in 2004. Brett was a great cook and a master at barbecue. When Brett was manning the grill, friends and family would swarm.

As a young man, Brett played football and wrestled. He earned his Eagle Scout award his senior year of high school. Brett loved his family, spending time with his friends, and camping. And, as a wildland firefighter, Brett also loved his chainsaw.

Brett was an excellent sawyer, a highly motivated firefighter, had an epic beard, and had that magical ability to make everyone around him feel loved. Brett had a contagious smile and a keen sense of humor.

Brett is survived by two grandparents, Keith Wardell and Bobbie Barbee, his parents, Ulys and Cheryl Stapleton, his brother, Toby Stapleton, his sisters, Ashley Rappleyea and Stephanie Gordon, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

There will be a private family burial service at Missouri Flat Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend a separate memorial service in Brett’s honor at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1969 Williams Highway, Grants Pass, OR, on Sunday, April 3, at 5 PM.
