Bill Hayes

November 24, 1944 — June 29, 2014

Bill Hayes was born and raised in San Francisco Bay Area. He passed away 29 June, 2014 in Grants Pass, Oregon. His ethnic origin is German, Jewish and Irish. He attended Westmoore High School and in 1962 enlisted in the US Navy retiring 31 August, 1982. His military occupation was in air conditioning and refrigeration equipment repair and maintenance. His military career began November 1962 at US Naval Recruit Training in San Diego CA. His ships included USS Coral Sea, USS Midway, USS Tripoli, USS Maddox, USS Fanning, USS Hepburn. 9th Infantry Vietnam survivors 1966-69, Mobile Riverine Force MeKong Delta 1967-68, 1968 TET OFFENSIVE. Naval stations were: Naval Station Norfolk, VA, Nav Fac Centerville Beach Ferndale, CA & Fleet Training Center San Diego, CA. He was Petty Officer 1st Class Instructor at the “Oscar Verner Peterson” Engineering Technical Training Building. Petty Officer Hayes earned a Corner Stone of the building for being one of the first staff 19 November, 1980. PO1 William Allen Hayes, USN. After moving to Grants Pass in 1982 he worked at Goodwill Industries, Al’s Refrigeration, Coachmen RV-2 years and retired from MasterBrand Cabinets after 6 years. Past volunteer work included 1981-82 member Cub Scout Pack III, 1982-83 Assistant Cub Master Pack 73 & 1984-86 Scout Master Troop 23 in Grants Pass, Oregon. His hobbies included woodworking, fishing, camping and enjoying his family time in the Rogue Valley. Survived by his wife of 45 years Sandy Hayes; son Jason Hayes; and daughter Nicole Hayes. Grandchildren Stephen Hayes, Loriell, Sarissa & Daiten Luben. Also 3 sisters and 1 brother, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces. We will all miss our LOVING FATHER, HUSBAND, & GRANDPA “Bill”. We thank him for his service to his country. He was an angel among us. Funeral services will be held at Hull & Hull Chapel 1:00 p.m. 03 July, 2014 with public viewing at noon. Graveside service following at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Grants Pass, Oregon.
