Betty J. Vandiver

Betty J. Vandiver, age 74, of Grants Pass, died Sunday, July 4, 2010 at Three Rivers Community Hospital.

A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 12, 2010 at Hull & Hull Chapel with Pastor Dick Boden officiating.

She was born Elizabeth Jane Pesterfield on December 21, 1935 in Arlington, California to William & Bernice Pesterfield. In 1954 she graduated from Marywood Catholic High School in Anaheim, California. She then attended college to become a dental assistant. On October 30, 1954 in Stanton, California she married Robert Dean Vandiver. They lived in Buena Park, California for many years before moving to Williams, Oregon in 1970 and in 1979 moved to Grants Pass. In the early 1970s she started work at Litton Guidance and Control when it first opened in Grants Pass and worked as a quality control inspector. In 1995 she moved with Litton to Salt Lake City until her retirement in 1999 when she returned to Grants Pass.

Since 1989 she attended Applegate Christian Fellowship and Edgewater Christian Fellowship. She was active with 55 Live, children’s ministries, Koinonia, and serving at Camp Bradley.

Betty especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For the past seven years she took daily care of her great-granddaughter, Mia.

Betty was very artistic and enjoyed china and toll painting, flower gardening, flower arranging, and crafts of all kinds.

Survivors include five children, Robbie D. Vandiver of LaPine, Oregon, Janey L. Johnson and Peggy L. Baker both of Grants Pass, Oregon, Joe A. Vandiver of Merlin, Oregon, and Steven R. Vandiver of Kalispell, Montana; two sisters, Willa L. Hyre of Grants Pass, Oregon and Marie I. Heath of California; a brother, Bill W. Pesterfield of Oregon; five grandchildren, Amy Ward, Jim White, Chelsea VanIersel, Tyler Baker, and Kaylee Loop; and four great-grandchildren, Mia White, Payton White, McKenzie Ward, and Kason Ward.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Vandiver and a sister, Colleen Hershburger.
