Betty Gean (Tucker) Wegley

Former Grants Pass resident, Betty Gean (Tucker) Wegley, age 84, of New Castle, Washington, died July 17, 2014 at a local adult care home.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 18, 2014 at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Betty and her twin brother, Bill were born on April 21, 1930 in Red Oak, Oklahoma to Leavy Hubert Tucker & Zora Christine (Johnson) Tucker. She and her family moved to Arizona and six years later they moved to Fresno, California. She met her future husband, Harry Wegley, in Fresno. When Harry got his draft notice, when Betty was fifteen and Harry was nineteen, they married. After serving in the United States Army during World War II, Harry was honorably discharged and they moved to Grants Pass in 1947. Betty was a homemaker and raised two sons and a daughter. In January of 2010, Betty moved to New Castle, Washington to be near her family.

Betty belonged to “Relay For Life”.

Her hobbies included vegetable and flower gardening, canning, sewing, hand quilting and oil painting. She was known as the neighborhood nurse and the neighborhood children were always welcome. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Harry Lee Wegley of Renton, Washington and Michael Hubert Wegley of Sacramento, New Mexico; a daughter Maria Christine Tuck of Gambier, Ohio; two sisters, Bonnie May Nelson of Medford, Oregon and Barbara Katherine Swank of Christmas Valley, Oregon; two brothers, Bill Dean Tucker, her twin of Butte Falls, Oregon and Bob Lee Tucker of Shady Cove, Oregon; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Harry Wegley; her parents, Leavy & Zora Tucker and a brother, Benny Ray Tucker.
