Bert Doshier, age 85, died Wednesday August 5, 2015 at Three Rivers Medical Center.
Bert was born January 26, 1930 in Coachella, CA to George and Naomi Doshier. His mother died when he was four. His father married Emma Allison. They moved to Jerome, ID where Bert attended school. He enlisted in the Navy 1947 and graduated from high school while in the Navy.
After the Navy he was in the border patrol from 1955 to 1956. In 1956 he joined the San Diego Police Department where he served for 20 years retiring in 1976 as a lieutenant.
Bert married Bette McCleary in 1962. They moved to Richland, OR in 1976. In 1994 Bert and Bette moved to Grants Pass, Oregon.
Bert taught police science subjects aboard Navy ships to the Sailors and Marines while they were out at sea. He thoroughly enjoyed these adventures.
He served on the board of directors for Grants Pass Irrigation District for 10 years. Later he served on the Airport Advisory Board at Merlin Airport .
He was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had many callings including Branch President in Richland, Or.
Bert loved to help people and sometimes did so anonymously.
He is survived by his wife Bette, and four children, Curtis and wife Lilly in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Dan and wife Krista of Grants Pass, OR. Carol and husband Ben Carroll in San Diego, CA. and Bonnie Jarvis in San Diego, CA. He has two sisters and a brother living in Idaho, Wendy Giles and husband David, Dennis Doshier and wife Roberta, and Mary Ann Doshier.
Bert and Bette have 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, He is preceded in death by his father, mother, step mother and brother Vernon Eugene Doshier.
A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 29, 2015 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Stake Center on Williams Highway. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
