Bernard E. “Griff” Griffin, age 87, of Grants Pass died Sunday November 17, 2013 at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center while in care of hospice.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 22, 2013 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors with Pastor Dennis Webber officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Griff was born December 14, 1925 in Fairbanks, Alaska. In 1943 he was drafted into the United States Navy and served on the USS Wichita during World War II. After the war he moved to Grants Pass. In 1948 he married Donna Bean at Newman United Methodist Church and they were married 65 years. He worked in the grocery business for 50 years until his retirement in 1991 managing Byrd’s Market and Pay and Save Grocery.
In his early years, he was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and in 1974 joined Grants Pass Rotary Club. He was also a member of the American Legion and attended Parkway Christian Center in his later years.
Griff enjoyed rock hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, spending time with his grandchildren, and gospel and western music.
He was preceded in death by his dad, mom, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
He is survived by his wife Donna; sons Gary and wife Winona, Mike and wife Diane, and daughter Kathy; 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
