Barbara Anne Humberd, age 84, of Grants Pass, died Monday, August 4, 2008 at Royale Gardens Health & Rehabilitation Center.
A funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Hull & Hull Chapel with Pastors Verne Hyland and Glen Erps officiating. Interment will follow at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Barbara Anne Bertrand was born June 21, 1924 in Grants Pass, the daughter of Gilbert & Julia Bertrand. She lived in Grants Pass all her life and graduated from Grants Pass High School with the Class of 1943. On August 1, 1943 she married Herman James “Jim” Humberd. In 1948 she and Jim opened the first office machine repair and stationary store in Grants Pass, which is now known as Frost Office Supply. They operated the store until 1977. She was appointed by then Governor Mark Hatfield as Chairman of the Josephine County Welfare Commission and was appointed as an interim Josephine County Commissioner.
She was elected Josephine County Treasurer for 12 years and served on numerous boards and state and national organizations as County Treasurer. She was President of the State Treasurers Association and on the Board of Directors for the Oregon Association of Counties. She was a long time member of Zonta, a 25 year member of Alpha Iota ESA, was active in Business and Professional Women, was chairman of the Grants Pass High School Scholarship Foundation for many years and was inducted into the GPHS Hall of Fame in 1988. She was also active in Republican politics and was a member of the Newman United Methodist Church.
Barbara was an avid reader, enjoyed crafts, sewing, writing, flowers and travel.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Hansen of Grants Pass and Julianne Casebolt of Olympia, Washington; a foster daughter, Rene Lambert; a sister, Margaret Rose and a brother, Roger Bertrand all of Grants Pass; a brother, Lewis Bertrand of Phoenix, Oregon; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, a sister Maude Petersen; two brothers Jack Bertrand and Keith Bertrand; and a foster son, Dale Humberd.
