Audrey Bayles, age 98, of Grants Pass, died September 16, 2023 at an adult foster home.
Audrey was born in 1924 in Middlesex, England. As a teenager, she entered the stage and performed in many shows. During World War II she was a Leftenant in the British Army serving in North Africa, Italy and northern Europe. After the war, she returned to the stage, toured with the Peter Sellers Band, and performed in vaudeville in Europe. In 1950 she emigrated to America performing in vaudeville and in the early 1950s settled in California. In the early 1960s she took over her mother-in-law’s catering business, which she ran successfully until moving to Oregon in 1970. In 1974 she started working at Illinois Valley High School cafeteria and in 1977 became the manager until her retirement in 1986. In 1987 she married the love of her life, Charles Bayles, who passed away in 2003.
Survivors include son Tim (Karel) Andrade of Grants Pass and Dennis Andrade (Bobby) Andrade of Sacramento, California; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; sister Joyce Mees; and brother Dennis Smith.
A committal service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
