Allen Robert Binstein, known as Bob by his family and friends, was born on April 16, 1941 in Los Angeles, California to Helen and Morris Binstein. He is survived by his wife, Helen Marie, daughters Shelly Thompson and Sheryl Van Dyk, son Morris Binstein, their spouses, his beloved grandchildren Andrew and Danielle Van Dyk and his sister Reva Skoll.
Bob spent his early years in California. He moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1965 where he met and fell immediately head over heels in love with Helen Marie in 1966; proposing marriage after only three months of dating. They were married in 1967 and spent fifty-three loving years fully devoted to one another. After leaving Chicago, they lived in Wisconsin, California and finally retired to Grants Pass, Oregon in 2006.
A man of many skills and interests, Bob worked in retail grocery as well as the computer and insurance industries. He loved reading, photography, blue grass music, stamp collecting, Coke memorabilia, camping and watching classic westerns and British mysteries. He was an avid genealogist who could spend hour upon hour researching his family’s history. His children could always count on him for fun and adventure ranging from watching Bugs Bunny cartoons, ice cream cones to celebrate good grades or a spontaneous day off from school to visit Disneyland, play in the snow or just a drive south to San Diego for hot cocoa.
Bob was a hard worker who never allowed Multiple Sclerosis to slow him down. Some might describe him as stubborn and strict, but underneath it all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle who always expected the best from us and believed we could accomplish anything we set our mind to. He told us often how proud he was of us. Bob nudged all of us to be our strongest and best selves and will continue to do so as he watches over us from above.
Remembrances may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society (M.S. Society).
