Ai Soon (Song) Remhof, 93, of Grants Pass, Oregon, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2024, attended by her daughter, Teresa Stover. She was born on January 20, 1931, in Taejon, South Korea, to her father Jae Soon Song and mother Bok Hi Sin.
Ai Soon was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who sacrificed for her family above all else. Ai Soon enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and volunteering with her church’s greeter, childcare and hospital ministries. While her education was interrupted in Korea with the end of World War II, her love for learning and personal perseverance resulted in her earning her high school diploma in 2002 when she was 71 years old.
Her career began with the U.S. Embassy in South Korea as a telephone switchboard operator. Upon the start of the Korean War in 1950, she evacuated from Seoul and later as a civilian worked telephone switchboards for U.S. Army Signal Corps where she met her future husband, Sgt. Richard Charles Remhof. Ai Soon and Richard (aka ‘R.C.’) married in Seoul, South Korea in 1955 and came to the U.S. later that year on the troopship USS General W.A. Mann.
In the early 1960s she was employed by the historic Almond Growers Association and Raytheon Company, both in Paso Robles, California. However, the majority of her career was with the Army & Air Force Exchange Service at Camp Roberts, Fort Ord, and Presidio of Monterey, all in California.
Ai Soon was preceded in death by R.C. and sister, Yong Ho (Song) Chai. She is survived by her children Lester (Pauline) Remhof and Teresa (Craig) Stover; grandchildren Denise Remhof, Monique Remhof, and Katherine (Jaysen) Corbett; and great grandchildren Jaysen Jr. and Brooklyn, along with many other beloved family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
A memorial will be held at the Hull and Hull Mortuary Chapel, Grants Pass, Oregon at 1 pm on Friday November 1, 2024, where family and friends can gather to celebrate Ai Soon’s life. Early next year there will be a service at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel in Boulder City, Nevada on Friday January 24, 2025, at 2 pm followed immediately by a graveside burial where Ai Soon will join R.C.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Medford Korean Church, Josephine Community Library Foundation, or Korean War Memorial Foundation, in honor of Ai Soon’s life.
Her life was a testament to her faith, inner strength and will to persevere. Throughout her life, she touched the hearts of many and her memory will live on. May she rest in peace.
