Ace C. Edwards

Ace C. Edwards, 84, of Grants Pass, died Sunday, March 11, 2007 at Three Rivers Community Hospital.

No services are planned. Southern Oregon Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements.

He was born on January 19, 1923 in Ranger, Texas. He grew up on a farm in Grants Pass, when his family moved here from Tucson, Arizona in 1935. He graduated from Grants Pass High School, Class of 1941. He served in the U S Army from 1943 to 1946. On December 19, 1944 in Durham, North Carolina, he married the former Virginia ReGester, who survives. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, after which he worked as an Industrial Arts instructor at Contra Costa College. Also, he was the foreman, body and fender mechanic, welder, painter and all over craftsman at Body and fender auto body Shops in Santa Clara, California and the Josephine County area. He retired in 1979 and returned to Grants Pass.

He enjoyed custom welding, metal fabrication, metal work artistry, selling some of his work as “Canardley Yard Birds”. He also enjoyed doing his own home repairs, mechanical work and he never hired anything out. He especially enjoyed eating out and was a loyal Herb’s LaCasita patron. He loved making homemade vanilla ice cream from scratch. He was a family man and loved family reunions.

In addition to his wife, Virginia Edwards of Grants Pass; survivors include his daughter, Glenda Anderson of Coeur D Alene, Idaho; his son, Brad Edwards of Canaan, New Hampshire; his sister, Lucille Cummins and brother, Glenn Edwards, both of Grants Pass; one granddaughter, Suzanne Lemasters of San Diego, California; and one great-grandchild, Alastair McNamara.
